Gifts can be classified in many different ways—whether
they are a collectible item or a functional item—many of
the items sold in agricultural retail stores can take on the
gift flare. Gifts are anything that is given to someone in celebration
of a holiday or special event or for the “just because” occasions
roll around. Heritage Trading has programs with Schleich and
Breyer—both handling toys and collectible items. Whether
you are buying a collectible Breyer horse for your daughter or
a Buck knife to give your paper boy, gift items encompass a wide
variety of categories that appeal to many of feed store customer
base.
Gift items are very often impulse purchases at retail and command a higher margin
than most of the other items sold at the store. These items can be stocked year
round or seasonally—but, either way they contribute to the bottom line
all year long. Merchandising is key in making an every day item into a gift idea
and in some cases making a gift item into an every day item as well. By stocking
non-traditional items the retail store can capture additional sales from it’s
current customers and draw from a new customer base as well.
